New Year’s Eve Dessert, The Sassy Tart

It’s my last night here in Orlando at Mom’s house, which means that we had to spend some QT in the kitchen.  And what’s more perfect than ending the year with a decadent treat right before the New Year’s diet hits?!

We decided on a Chocolate Strawberry Tart that was rich and delicious.  It also left me with the need to purchase a tart pan asap!  If you are staying in for NYE why not make a special dessert to liven things up?  If you like chocolate, this is sure to be a hit!

Chocolate Strawberry Tart

Crust Ingredients -1 1/4 cups flour, 1 1/2 tbsp. sugar, pinch of salt, 1/2 cup cold butter, 1 egg yolk slightly beaten, 2 tbsp. cold water

Crust Directions -Preheat oven to 375 degrees and grease 9 inch tart pan.  In food processor combine flour, sugar and salt.  Add butter and process until small pellets.  Add egg yolk and water.  Press dough into flat disk and chill for 30 minutes in fridge.  After, roll out onto floured surface and gently press into prepared pan.  Line crust with foil and fill with pie weights (or beans) and bake until slightly brown, 10-15 min.  Remove foil and weights and bake another 5 minutes.  Reduce oven to 350 degrees.

Filling Ingredients -1/2 cup butter, 4 oz. semisweet chocolate that is coarsely chopped, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 eggs, 1 egg yolk, 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract, 1/4 cup of half and half.

Filling Instructions – Melt butter and chocolate in a saucepan over low heat.  Add sugar, eggs, egg yolk, vanilla, and stir until smooth.  Remove from heat and add the half and half.  Pour mixture into prepared crust.  Bake approx. 25-30 minutes. Remove from heat and cool.

Topping – 1/4 cup strawberry jam melted in a saucepan.  Brush on top of tart and arrange halved strawberries.  Dig in!
