Christmas Mantle Decor, Two Ways

This holiday season I wanted to experiment with different decorating styles. I’ve always been torn between the traditional Christmas mantle decorations in classic colors like green and red and more of a sleek modern look in shades of silver and white. So, instead of choosing I decided to create mantle decor inspired by both styles. So, here is my take on each of them featuring our own fireplace mantle.

First up is the traditional mantle. This garland actually came with lights and embellishments already attached for the bargain price of just $40 at Sam’s club. Is that a deal or what?! Luckily, we have an outlet right near the fireplace so lighting it up is nice and simple, plus it doesn’t involve a long ugly extension cord. That just ruins the look for me, but I digress…I then added the tall white candles to give the look some height and dimension. I just love the warm classic feeling of Christmas this mantle look gives our family room.

Next up was the more modern take I talked about. I used a long strand of silver garland and paired it with simple red votives. I also added tall thin silver reindeer and poinsettias in a mercury glass vase to add some height to the look. While I do think that this holiday mantle feels clean and refined, I’m not sure it’s quite robust enough to really make a statement in our room.  Next year I think I’ll amp this look up even more! In the meantime, the classic Christmas mantle decorations take the cake. Although, I think most attempts at holiday decorating help spread good cheer. Don’t you?

So, which look is your favorite?  Are you a traditional kinda girl or do you love to take Christmas to a new modern frontier?
