How to Dress Like a New Yorker: Summer Edition
Please welcome the lovely Amy from Midtown Girl! We adore Amy not only because she’s an amazing person, but because her sense of style is spot on. Did I mention that she’s a total dating expert? Well, she is! If you haven’t visited Midtown Girl yet, trust me, you’ll be tuning in daily in no time!
Personal style is key because it represents how you feel about fashion and how it works into your lifestyle. And since personal style can vary from state to state, I often get asked by readers what to bring with them when they come to NYC. Because space is an issue (NYC apts are tiny!), many New York girls invest in pieces that are of good quality & carry more that one purpose. If you pack with this mantra, you’ll find that with just a few pieces, you’ll totes have a NYC chic travel wardrobe.
A Day Dress That Easily Transforms into Cocktail Wear. Jersey wrap and silk-blend shift dresses are worn all season here because they can easily transition from work day to date night. They are easy ‘throw on and go’ pieces that can be dressed up or down depending on your mood & the occasion. A jersey tunic dress can be worn during the day while you hit the city’s sites and then amped up for the eve with some stunning accessories and a beautiful pair of sandals. Flats That Don’t Look Like Flats. Whether you plan on visiting Downtown, Midtown or Uptown, it’s vital that you wear comfy shoes. But, that doesn’t mean they can’t be chic! Low heeled, peep-toe wedgies or ankle strap espadrilles will give you that ‘Summer In The City’ look, with minimal damage to your manicured toes. ~ Cole Haan Tali Wedge
A Fabulous Lightweight Handbag. It doesn’t have to be designer and it doesn’t have to be crazy expensive. But what you wear on your shoulder should be just as fabulous a statement piece as your shoes. You only need one day bag (besides your travel luggage & clutch), so make it an uber fabulush one! ~ MICHAEL by Michael Kors Newman Bag
Bold Jewelry. You can dress up any outfit with gorg jewelry. By bringing one amaze bracelet, a layered necklace & a statement ring, you are totes prepared for a full day veiwing of fashion exhibits at the Met and then later onto rooftop cocktails in NoMad (North of Madison). ~ Ann Taylor Seashell Necklace
A Cashmere Cardi or Seersucker Blazer. Either pieces will go with everything in your NYC summer travel wardy. In the eve, many visitors take sailboat trips around Manhattan to view the city skyline, so you definitely want to be prepared for some cooler temps. My fav way of wearing summer blazers & cardis is thrown over the shoulders, espesh over a strapless dress, for a chic look that will carry you through a fabulush New York night. ~ Brooks Brothers Seersucker Jacket
