Family Vacation and Turning Uno
For the past week you may have noticed that it was a little quiet on the “Megan” front. That’s because I slipped away for a family vacation to unplug for a bit. It was the first time all three of us have traveled on a trip together other than to see family and it was great! We decided to head to Cancun, Mexico because we had been there before and knew it was a relatively easy trip. Also, if you wait for it, you can get incredible deals, which being just before the high season we were able to do. While we were there Jake turned one which made it the perfect time to reflect on the past year and celebrate the milestone. After all, I think every mom deserves a GIANT margarita after that first year! Phew!
1. Manage your expectations. Jake goes to bed pretty early so we knew that on this trip we would most likely not make any of the fun entertainment that started after 8pm. We even missed the kids’ shows. After a day in the sun the little guy was wiped and rather than pushing him we just settled in for the evening.
2. Space is awesome. We decided that since we would be spending our nights in our room to go for it and got the room with a large balcony and living room. It was a little more expensive, but we were able to put him to sleep and then have a space where we could read, watch movies or just sit outside and talk without worrying about waking up baby.
3. Take turns. For me it’s not a true vacation without a little pampering and every parent needs a break from the 24/7. During nap times we would switch off, so that one was on duty in the room and the other could hit the spa, gym etc. guilt free.
Those are just a few things that worked for us. If you have any other great tips I would love to hear them! I’m currently day dreaming about our next vacay, whenever that might be!
