DIY Wallpaper Removal, Part II

Wallpaper Removal

Wallpaper RemovalYes, thats me looking ready for all kinds of craziness. Well I got it. A few weeks ago, I thought I had won the wallpaper wars. You might recall from this post, when I was giddy with joy at removing a room full of wallpaper in less than an hour. Well sadly, I had no idea what was in store for me. Silly me, I thought a quick sanding and wipe down and that these walls would be ready for paint. Well imagine my surprise to discover that the leftover glue had other plans. The sanding seemed to activate the wallpaper glue and it turned into scales. Scales that literally looked like some creepy reptile crawling up the walls and it was EVERYWHERE! EEK!
Wallpaper RemovalMy first thought was to chip away at the glue scales with a putty knife, but it only made the walls worse so I turned to my dear friend Google. Thankfully, others before me had lived to tell the tale that a warm bucket of water and a sponge would do the trick. And it did! But it took hours. Literally after about 6 hours of doing the “wax on, wax off” motion these walls are finally ready for primer. See the tired fake smile below?! That was where I was at.
Wallpaper RemovalThe good news is that we are making visible progress! Focusing on one space in this house at a time really seems to be helping me make decisions and feel the movement. We’ve decided on a paint color (no easy feat!) and the winner is Grey Owl by Benjamin Moore. The lighting is a little off in this photo but its a great, soothing grey.
Wallpaper RemovalAnd since we’ve been too busy to paint, I’ve started shopping! Yippee! So far I found this 8×10 grey and white chevron rug from Home Goods, and a white book case from Target to help with toy storage. The baskets are more like little wooden crates and I love that we can clearly label where toys go. I may even try my hand at drawing icons since Jake can’t read yet and I want him to help pick-up. Next up on my shopping list is a couch for the opposite wall.

Every single wall in my current home had wallpaper on it and border. EVERY. SINGLE. WALL. it was a nightmare. So glad that part of the remodeling is over. 🙂 I adore your style in this room! Chevron anything is an automatic buy for me but I really like the whole room feel. 🙂
