I have a confession to make. If you had told me a year ago that I would be up for making homemade playdough I would have rolled my eyes at you. It just sounds like one of those things that would be overly complicated for little reward. I would think to myself, who has the time to make playdough?! I barely have time to take a shower! But curiosity got the better of me and I was shocked at just how easy it is. I mean its like 5 minutes easy! And I like it so much better than store bought. It feels silkier on my hands and smells WAY better. I sheepishly admit that I am a homemade playdough convert.
How to Make Homemade Playdough
1 cup water
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 Tbls. vegetable oil
Food coloring (a few drops of your favorite colors)
Directions: Place all of the ingredients into a pot. Stir over medium heat for a few minutes until it is no longer sticking to the sides. (This literally took me about 3 minutes.) Place playdough ball on wax paper to cool. Squish it in your hands a few times until its soft and then hand over to the kiddos to start playing.
One tip is to make sure you store it in air tight container to keep it fresh as long as possible, although my little man goes through playdough pretty quickly!
I also think this would make a lovely gift, perhaps paired with a few cookie cutters for fun! What do you think? Is making homemade playdough for you?
