Become a Mom Boss: How to Start a Business

Way back when Megan and I started our little business here, we didn’t intend on it being an actual business. We were simply two friends who both needed creative outlets at a stressful time in our lives. My first baby had just been born and Megan was powering her way through business school. A blog that we could work on together seemed like a natural way for us to stay connected, while, at the same time, focusing our attention on something fun. Well, fast forward nearly a decade later and our little blog has made us entrepreneurs. I have to say that while it’s been an absolute blast, our path hasn’t always been easy. We had to learn everything on our feet and it would have been so helpful to have advice on how to start a business and become a Mom Boss by someone who’d done just that. Luckily, all of you have Nicole Feliciano, owner of Momtrends Media, and author of the brand new book Mom Boss!

My friend, and mentor, Nicole, also started out small. Momtrends was born out of her desire to solve problems for moms…Well, she did just that and then some. She now has a million dollar business that not only includes the website, but also offers events, influencer outreach and more. If there was ever someone fit to tell moms how to fit a business into their busy lives…it’s her. In Mom Boss, she gives you the tools you need to successfully navigate the road to entrepreneurship. Sure, she shares her personal story, but she also includes the journeys of other mom bosses, as well as a roadmap for how to carve out your own plan based on what type of mom boss best describes you. The guidance you will find in Mom Boss includes inspirational anecdotes and actionable tips. It’s the kind of resource every mom interested in how to start a business needs!

I’m forever looking for more information on how to run our business better so I scooped up Mom Boss as soon as I could and I  read it whenever I could find the time. Whether that was in the school pick up line, late night in bed or in the bathtub. Ever the multi-tasker, I even wanted to squeeze some learning into my attempt at relaxation…Let me paint you a picture of a typical scene at my house. Say I tried to grab some me time by the pool while reading Mom Boss in a fabulously flattering Miraclesuit swimsuit, and sipping on vino and noshing on hummus, which my kiddo, of course, immediately spilled on my swimsuit, requiring me to lunge for my go-to Clorox Pre-Treat Stain Remover Pen, which is specially formulated to pre-treat stains on colors, and thanks to its TripleSolve™ Technology helps, penetrate dissolve and eliminate the oh so many tough messes that come my away. It was Clorox to the rescue once again. Are you tired yet? I sure am!

So, it was bye bye swim time, hello laundry and cook the kids dinner time. Thankfully, I was able to grab a quick shower so I could wash my hair with Zotos Professional Hair Care shampoo. One of my little splurges is my hair color and mama’s not risking chlorine wrecking that beautiful color my stylish hooked me up with. Haha! After that, all I had to do was turn to Pinterest for a quick dinner recipe which I was able to easily do because I actually remembered to charge my phone with my handy Rayovac Power Protect phone charger. As you can see, us moms have a lot of balls in the air at all times…which, according to Nicole, makes us natural entrepreneurs!

I actually had the pleasure of meeting Nicole in San Francisco a few years ago. She is very driven and definitely a role model for other moms who want to be their own bosses.
