How to Support Breast Cancer Research

A decade ago I lost my Auntie to breast cancer. It was a devastating loss and one that still affects me to this day. She was my godmother and my mom always said it was meant to be because we were so much alike. This is the woman who introduced me to red lipstick and leopard prints. Need I say more? Every time she came to visit it was like Christmas. We always had the best time and I can still hear her call me be my nickname, Krickin, ever so clearly. So, I’m sure you can imagine how important breast cancer research has become to me…

I remember making my travel reservations after I found out she was gone in a literal daze. A mere day later, I landed in my mom’s hometown not really believing my beloved Auntie was gone…That was until I felt a hand on my shoulder as I was walking through the airport. I turned around and nobody was there. There was not one single person anywhere near me. I instantly knew it was my Auntie letting me know she was ok.

After that, I was able to make it through the viewing and funeral with some semblance of comfort. I watched her daughter, barely more than a child, stand tall and proud as she honored her mother with the eulogy. It was no surprise to me that she was able to handle such a task as she came from an incredibly strong woman who fought for her life to the very end. It is for her that I do regular self examinations. And when I found a lump of own last year, instead of discounting it, I immediately went to the doctor. I will never take my life for granted thanks to my Auntie and will be vigilant when it comes to my health and the health of those I care about.

research makes a difference

So, I’m always thrilled to throw my support to organizations who are trying to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. It couldn’t be easier to help Lands’ End with their #PinkThread #BeTheEnd Share the Knowledge Twitter initiative which is benefitting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. For the past week, @LandsEndPR has tweeted a Breast Cancer Research Foundation fact of the day around 8am Central. By retweeting the fact you will be helping share vital information while getting the chance to win one of (5), Lands’ End Pink Thread Project Gift Packages. Lands’ End will also donate $200 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each selected winner.

You can find today’s Breast Cancer Research Foundation fact of the day HERE. Won’t you join us by retweeting it and sharing the knowledge?!

Breast cancer research is so important to us too. My aunt passed away 5 years ago and it was so difficult to go through.

First of all I am so sorry for your loss! Your aunt sounds like an incredible woman. I definitely believe in breast cancer research. I am currently a BC fighter. With all the progress that was made, it helped me have an overall good prognosis (finished chemo 3 months ago!) and I want the same for every woman! Thanks for sharing awareness!
