American Girl Style: Melody Ellison

“Fairness and equality for all people…” I can’t think of a better platform for a real American Girl. Can you? Meet Melody Ellison. This music loving American Girl’s story is set against the Motown music scene in 1960s Detroit. Readers will instantly be transported back to a time when the civil rights movement was facing major changes. And that is a period in our nation’s history that every child should learn about.

In fact, my lil’ lady bean recently become the proud owner of her very first American Girl doll and guess who it is? Melody Ellison of course! As soon as I saw her I just knew she had a home with us. First, and most importantly, I was so excited to read my daughter her story as it is extremely important to me that she understands the fight for equality that was fought in the past and is still being fought today. It is up to us parents to instill love for all in our kids, so they will carry on that legacy and continue to push for fairness for everyone after we are gone!

And then there was her outfit…We can’t forget that. Melody Ellison’s fashion game is seriously on point. That’s something my style lovin’ daughter definitely notices in her dolls. Not that I expected anything less from an American Girl. They have a special knack for bringing an era to life both through the vibrant, historically accurate, storytelling in their books, but with their dolls’ historical style as well.

My daughter was so delighted with her beautiful new Melody Ellison doll, she decided that she wanted to coordinate with her. So, she selected a navy and aqua striped ruffle number that paired quite well with Melody Ellison’s aqua and green look. Being the fashion forward gal that she is, she also insisted on a contrasting colored accessory in the form of a large and in charge bow.

We were inspired to share my daughter and her favorite new doll’s style by Heather of My Life Well Loved and Molly from Stilettos and Diapers. Together, we have joined forces for this edition of their Little Styles blog hop and giveaway series. And the fun doesn’t end there! Littles Style was born to help mamas find style tips for their kids, themselves, and even how to coordinate with each other. We hope you enjoy all the fun ideas!

She’s the cutest thing! I love that the stories are historical as I think it gives our little girls a since of things that happened before they came.

When I was little, I was obsessed with my American Girl Dolls! I had Samantha, Molly, Josefina and one that looked just like me! I loved the books, and I’d get together with all of my friends and we’d play for hours on end. I’m so excited to see that the newer generations are still enjoying these beautiful dolls. I’m going to share this with one of my friends who has a little girl of her own 🙂
