It’s a hard job but someone’s gotta do it! I’m talking about trying out new beauty products, something I’m enjoying more and more over time. Testing Beautycounter makeup had been on my list for awhile. So when a local Beautycounter consultant and friend invited me to an in-home party and experience I was excited to go. I of course enjoyed mingling with my fellow Annapolis ladies, but I really loved getting to see the products up close and personal.
If you haven’t heard of Beautycounter yet, you are sure to hear about them soon. While you can order Beautycounter products direct from the site, the line is also sold similar to Stella & Dot. Local consultants often host events and recruit consultants to sell the goods along with them. The reason this line had caught my eye in particular is that has a focus on ingredient safety but with a look that is still luxurious. This is something that has been on my mind more and more lately. Until recently I didn’t realize just how unregulated the beauty industry is in the US. While the EU has continued to ban and regulate ingredients, the US puts the majority of that responsibility on the consumer. Which is a little tricky since I think as consumers we don’t realize this is the case and think the ingredients in any products we buy are being closely monitored.
After researching and testing Beautycounter makeup, I was relieved that their founder, and a fellow concerned Mom, is doing just that with this brand. In fact they have a no ingredient list that has over 1,500 ingredients they won’t use in their products for just that reason.
But I’m also a sucker for pretty and function. Would safer makeup deliver in the looks department? How would it wear? I decided to purchase and try the Color Shade Eye Duo in Slipper/Slate, as well as the Sheer Lipstick in Plum and the Lip gloss in Sienna. The products aren’t inexpensive so I wanted to test the waters with these items before buying more.
A few weeks later and I’m loving all three. The lipstick goes on so nice and smooth. It isn’t a matte so it does need reapplying mid-day but I just love the look and the feel! The same goes for the lip gloss. I’ve been wearing it daily both with and without lipstick. It is smooth and not overly sticky (ya’ll know I can’t do sticky gloss!).
The eye duo is a fun combination that works so easily for day. I also like using the slate with a fine brush to line my lids for a smoky look.
Testing Beautycounter makeup has been great and I’m definitely planning on buying some more of their products soon. I think next up will be their sunscreen and foundation since those are items that cover a lot of skin. Knowing these products are created with safety in mind first is a huge sigh of relief this beauty junkie can get behind!
