A Golf Getaway at Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge

My husband turned the big 4-0 a few weeks ago and I leading up to it, I knew I wanted to plan something really special for him to celebrate the milestone. I couldn’t think of a better gift than the gift of friendship, so I secretly arranged for his very best friend to fly in from New York to surprise him. Being that they’re both golf fanatics, I knew I had to find a retreat that would allow them to get plenty of time in on a course. Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando turned out to be the perfect property for his surprise birthday weekend. I couldn’t have possibly come up with a better golf getaway this close to our hometown of Tampa! So, let’s talk about why Bay Hill makes for a golfer’s DREAM getaway…

The golf course…I had to mention that first, obviously, because it’s an Arnold Palmer property and that’s what he did…design incredible golf courses. So, at Bay Hill, there are two courses to play. There’s the 18 hole Champion Challenger course, made famous by the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and there is a 9 hole Charger course as well. My husband and his friend played and had a blast on both.

Being that the course is where an actual PGA tournament occurs means the fairways and greens are simply exceptional and each hole has incredible character, while offering breathtaking views. The fellas couldn’t get enough of the iconic 6 hole where John Daly famously made an 18. Bwah! Starting off the round with an awesome practice area didn’t hurt either. They raved about the driving range and short game practice space! And I hear from a reliable source that there is a BAR in the locker room. A guy I know may or may not have partaken in a post shower drink. Just sayin’. Speaking of drinks, I also can’t say enough about how nice it was to sip cocktails at the bar which overlooks the course. Plus, their nachos and wings are on point, but I digress…

The rooms…While not extravagant, the rooms are just what you would expect from a golf lodge type atmosphere. They were clean, comfortable and perfectly appointed. Ours just so happened to have a lovely view of the golf course and enjoying a quiet cup of coffee on the little patio adjacent to it was one of my favorite moments from the trip!

spa property

The spa…While the boys golfed I took the opportunity to book a massage and it definitely didn’t disappoint. After being escorted to a spotless dressing area, I settled in for an hour of sublime relaxation. My masseuse took the time to find out what my problem areas were and what type of pressure I preferred which made for a wonderful experience!

So, if you’re looking to plan a golf getaway in the near future, I highly suggest you look into the Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge . It would be equally great for couples or groups alike! The hubs is already planning a dudes only trip. Haha! And not only are the property, grounds and amenities just lovely, (did I mention that they make a mean breakfast?) but there are plenty of local hot spots within minutes of it too. We enjoyed a couple of stellar meals at Slate and Rocco’s Tacos and Tequila Bar. I would definitely add those to your agenda!

This is such an amazing birthday surprise! I am sure your husband enjoyed this so much. My husband is 36 and I have already started trying to think of a great way to celebrate him turning 40.
