Attainable Original Artwork

One of the great things about Etsy is that in addition to wonderful handmade accessories and clothing, you can also find amazing original artwork that is affordable. I'm a fan of using unique artwork throughout my house, but in the past I've been intimidated by the high ticket prices I see at galleries and festivals.  Because of this, we tend to use Floyd's photography but recently I've been trying to balance his photography with other artwork. I'm just starting to work out how I want to decorate my home office and these illustrations from Lola Donoghue's Etsy...

Chalkboard Platter DIY

It's no secret, I love a good DIY project.  And lately Pinterest has been a source of great DIY inspiration (for any pinners out there, you can find me here). I recently started following blogger Amanda of Wit and Whistle who has a gorgeous collection of DIY projects under her belt.  When I saw her chalkboard platter I decided to give it a go.  Not only that, I lured my friend Cait out from the city to spend the day DIYing along with me in the burbs. DIYing is more fun in pairs.  Here's the...

Pantone Color of the Year: Tangerine Tango

Somehow I missed it, but last month Pantone announced the official Pantone Color of 2012. Oh wait, I did have that whole having a baby thing going on in December. I guess I was just a little preoccupied. But hey, this is still exciting news for me!  I just adore how Pantone announces its yearly shade and instantly you can find it in fun POCs from the runway to home decor (that's "pops of color" for those who haven't been sitting around during late night feedings watching, It's a Brad Brad World. Jake's a massive fan.  Naturally.). I'm...

Christmas Mantle Decor, Two Ways

This holiday season I wanted to experiment with different decorating styles. I've always been torn between the traditional Christmas mantle decorations in classic colors like green and red and more of a sleek modern look in shades of silver and white. So, instead of choosing I decided to create mantle decor inspired by both styles. So, here is my take on each of them featuring our own fireplace mantle. First up is the traditional mantle. This garland actually came with lights and embellishments already attached for the bargain price of just $40 at Sam's club. Is...

Fall Tablescape: For The Leaf Of It

Are you like me and still on a candy high?!  I've determined that no better time exists to be towards the end of pregnancy than through Halloween AND Thanksgiving AND potentially Christmas (due on Dec. 22nd means that holiday is a gamble!).  There is no shortage of good treats in the house and no one is questioning that missing Kit-Kat, or three. I loved decorating and getting the table ready for Halloween (spooky table setting seen here) and while I'm sad to see October come and go, Thanksgiving is right around the corner.  Here's a quick and easy...

Spooky Table Setting

Are you getting into the fun of Halloween?  This weekend my Mom and I decided to do a little tablescaping to get us in the spooky spirit.  I had most items on hand, which helped make this project very budget friendly.  The orange plastic chargers, tilting spider candles and plastic spiders were purchased at Michael's, but the table cloth and dishes were all pre-owned.  I recently saw this idea for a "ghost pitcher" on a blog but can't find it anywhere (if it's you please let me know, I loved this project and will link up!)....

Entrance Hallway Molding DIY

I am jumping up and down ecstatic to show you today's Before and After!  You might remember this image as our hallway entrance wall.  It was a long blank wall that was boring and rather drab.  That's our front door to the right.  Clearly, we were debating paint color choices at the time this was snapped, but you get the idea.  LONG BLANK BORING WALL ZZZZZZ. Well, after a lot of debating and even more sweat equity (mostly on Floyd's part) it now looks like this: I still have some decorating to do, in particular replacing that...

Everyone Needs a Little Napa in Their Life

A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending an appreciation event put on by Aguiar Plastic Surgery at a darling little shop called Napa Flair. I am so grateful that my dear friend Leslie Joy Ickowitz of VERTICAL Tampa Bay thought to include me as I was introduced to a fabulous new shopping haunt! Napa Flair is a wine and decor boutique that boasts an excellent selection of wine, as well as gorgeous antiques and various home wares. Not only can you turn to the lovely owner, LuAnn Shapiro, for wine recommendations, but you can...
