You may remember when I mentioned that we visited St. Augustine a couple weeks ago for a little family getaway. Well, I’m ready to give you all the fabulous details on our wonderful stay at the award winning Renaissance World Golf Village Resort. The World Golf Village Resort was kind enough to host us for the weekend and, let me tell you, they rolled out the red carpet!
Upon arrival, I was greeted at the front desk by a friendly and extremely helpful fellow named John. After finding out what our tentative plans were for the weekend, he made restaurant and activity recommendations which turned out to be spot on. He even took several minutes to go over a map with me, so we were comfortable with our route. For dinner, he sent us to the Creekside Dinery. If you’re planning a trip to St. Augustine any time soon, you must check out this restaurant. It’s family friendly, has excellent food and the ambiance can’t be beat!
After dinner, we were all pretty beat, so we headed back to the hotel and relaxed in our lovely suite. The dude was SO excited that he and the lil’ lady bean had their own room. We all slept SO well that night. A comfortable bed is like gold and I can definitely attest to the comfort of our cushy bed. Plus, there’s nothing I enjoy more than having a cup of coffee al fresco, so I was psyched to see that we had a sweet little balcony!
Early the next morning, the hubs hit the greens and played a round of golf at the the World Golf Village Resort’s Slammer and Squire championship course. He was impressed that each golfer was treated like a member of the club. He was picked up in the parking lot and driven to the clubhouse. The caddy took his clubs to his cart while he milled around the clubhouse for a bit. He was then directed to the driving range where he got in a little practice before his tee time. When it was time to tee off he walked to his cart where tees and a towel were waiting for him. The amazing mood he was in afterward is a testament to how great the experience was!
Once the hubs came home, we took off for a fun filled day in historic downtown St. Augustine. We drove since we had a ton of gear for the kiddos, but the hotel offers a complementary shuttle to downtown! Per the dude’s special request, our first stop was the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum. Obviously it was a dream come true for my little pirate lover. Next, we visited the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. The dude was so pumped that we were actually allowed in the fort. My history loving hubs was just as excited as his son. Actually, I had a blast too! I highly recommend you add the fort to your list of St. Augustine “must sees!”
After a few hours walking around, we were ready for a little R&R, so we relaxed in our lovely room for a bit before going to dinner at Acapulco Mexican Restaurant. It was directly across from the fort, had a spectacular view and to die for salsa! You can’t beat a great view, cold beer and chips and salsa. At least in my family’s book!
The dude was dying to go swimming after dinner, so we hit up the pool and it didn’t disappoint. Even if you aren’t interested in a dip, relaxing on of the chaises or rockin’ away in one of the rocking chairs would be a perfectly divine time too!
All in all, I can highly recommend both the Renaissance World Golf Village Resort and St. Augustine as a travel destination. Any property that has a Starbucks on site already has a leg up with me! Haha! Plus, if you have a golf lover in the family, you can’t go wrong with this property!
