A Fresh Coat of Paint in the Living Room

Today is the last day to enter our wall quotes/decal giveaway!

Is the time change affecting everyone as much as it is me?  My clock is officially off and come 11 am, I’m starving!  This weekend the change was an added bonus since we decided to tackle the paint job in our living room.  We definitely took advantage of that extra hour in the day!

My vision for this room has always been to create a serene and elegant space where I can read and relax or sit with a friend and laugh over drinks.  Basically a grown up space with no TV (gasp!).  It still has a long way to go, but isn’t it just amazing what a coat or two of paint can do to transform the mood of a room?!  It’s basically the most cost effective (aka cheap!) way to liven things up.  The color we chose is Svelte Sage from Sherwin Williams.

But of course I still have big plans ahead so be sure to stay tuned!

Has a coat of paint ever transformed a room or piece of furniture in your world? Do tell!

I had to laugh at your before pic – my bedroom has a paint swatch like that, only it’s about a year and a half old by now! Sigh, I’d love to paint it, but it requires time I don’t have just yet 🙂 Love the colour, ours is very similar. Thanks for visiting my blog 🙂

@shaz, Oh yes, I’m all about the test spots on the wall. And you are not alone, there are a few others throughout the house that I haven’t gotten to and have been up for ages!

Beautiful light coming into that room and I love the colors in the rug. Yes, in my last house I was painting rooms all the time. My husband would come home from work only to find our kitchen a whole new color than when he left that morning. Our current home is all white and I’m enjoying that for now – perhaps I overloaded in the last one.

Megan absolutely, I now have a deep teal in my entryway and office/den. I love what you have done!

It looks great! So bright! Definitely hang some fun stuff on the walls to add some pops of color.
I hear ya on the time change – I feel out of whack!

Love the color! My bf just recently bought a house and we’ve painted every single room in the house. It is amazing how much better they look!

I’m always surprised at what a fresh coat of paint can do… We painted the living room a chocolate brown color earlier this fall and it feels like a new space — I love it!!

It’s amazing, how so little can do so much to transform a room – looks great already! (Also, you’ve just made me super-hungry and it’s definitely not nearly the next mealtime :)).

  9. Julia, the Thanksgiving Girl says

Gorgeous new paint!!! Absolutely love how the colors in your room all line up now – the floor’s brown goes great with the carpet and its pattern and your walls now totally bring those together and bring out the best in them and in the sofa! Love love love it, great choice!

My husband is a painter by trade–he works on all these multi-million-dollar homes in the Bay Area–so I must say YES. We’re a big fan of accent walls, though my current obsession is chalkboard paints. We made a bunch of chalkboards for our wedding and used the remaining paint to paint the inset of our kitchen door, which now serves as a message board or a line-up for the week’s dinner menus!

@Camels & Chocolate, What a cute idea! I really like the idea of chalboard paint, I’m just not sure where I can put it but the inside of a cabinet or door sounds perf!

The room looks so much better with the paint! It’s amazing how much paint can transform a room – I love your vision in this room and think it will be perfect for entertaining! Thanks for sharing your transformation!

That looks awesome and I love the plans you have for the room! Every room in our house is a different color, but I think my favorite is our cozy royal purple dining room. It looks so stunning and elegant with the dark wood dining room furniture. Although I also love the gray in our bedroom…so many decisions!

I have a similar paint shade on the walls of my living room and dining room. I really love it. I’m ready to paint quite a few rooms around here. Just can’t muster up the energy to get started.

  14. Grace says

I love that olive color; my mom’s office is a similar shade. The only instance I can think of is when I was ten and I finally got to get rid of the dusty pink color in my bedroom. Now it’s a light turquoise and I hate it even more, haha.

  15. Nadette@Eat, Read, Rant! says

I love the light in your living room, and the color just warms the space right up. I’m a renter, but my landlord let me paint, and I went to town in my bedroom. I wanted an Island getaway feel, so i did a neutral light brown on three walls, and a peachy/papaya color as an accent wall, so that my dark wood bedroom set really pops against that backdrop. I never did get around to buying the crisp white curtains and white bedspread, mostly because I was spending that money on more important things (like shoes and alcohol) but I still love look of my bedroom.

did you go with 100% of the svelt sage. I am thinking of toning it down a little. Don’t know if it will be a little too dark. Also I want to use it in kitchen, livingroom and hallways. do you think that will be too much green.
