A few years back the hubs and I made a goal for ourselves to incorporate more plant-based meals into our diet. And we were pleasantly surprised by how great we felt just from adding a few more plant based options to our meal plan each week. We felt so great, in fact, we decided to get the kids in on the fun too!
One of the easiest ways our family has found to enjoy plant-based meals is through lunch, namely sandwiches. Sandwiches aren’t only about the meat! My kids don’t often turn down a sandwich. Haha! And if you love sandwiches as much as we do, you know it’s all about the bread. If the bread isn’t right, the whole sandwich is off! That is why the plant-based bread I’m about to tell you about is so perfect for picky eaters!
Why Kids Will Love Plant-Based Bread
Thank goodness for Arnold Organic White Made with Whole Wheat Bread! Did you know that it is sustainably baked, meaning they use renewable wind energy to bake it, and it has Organic whole grain as the first ingredient? Like I mentioned, it’s plant-based and provides a good source of Vitamins A, D, & E. Now is that an easy swap to add to your life or what?
Plus, this plant-based bread tastes great and features Disney’s Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse on the package. If you know us in real life, you know why this bread was not a hard sell in my house. Because we are sandwich lovin’ AND Disney lovin’ folks. Haha! So, naturally, this bread was the perfect starting point for my easy caprese open-faced sandwich for kids!
One of my children has sensory issues and is easily overwhelmed by chewy foods. I found that simply making our sandwiches open-faced makes all the difference. There is less to chew and the soft and smooth texture doesn’t hurt either. Not to mention that the open-faced structure allows you to see all those tasty ingredients you’re piling on the bread.
How to Get Kids to Try New Foods
You really want to see the sandwich fixin’s in this recipe because I used a Disney’s Mickey Mouse cookie cutter to make sweet little Disney’s Mickey shaped cheese slices! So, not only is our sandwich of the day a caprese open-faced sandwich, it’s a Disney’s Mickey open-faced sandwich too. That’s what makes it so great for kids!
A little tip…If your little ones aren’t keen on trying new things, having some fun with their food by creating shapes of things they love with your ingredients, like Disney’s Mickey for example, just might nudge them in the right direction! I mean who can resist a Disney’s Mickey shaped cheese slice?
How to Make an Open Faced Caprese Sandwich
On that note, let’s talk about what you need to do with that Disney’s Mickey Mouse cheese slice shall we? All you need to make this super simple sandwich is a slice of Arnold Organic White Made with Whole Wheat Bread, a slice of mozzarella cheese, a beefsteak tomato slice, a couple fresh basil leaves and a sprinkling of balsamic vinegar. Easy peasy!
If this tasty looking sandwich isn’t enough to make you want to try our family favorite Arnold Organic White Made with Whole Wheat Bread, what if I told you that “Arnold is a member of 1% for the Planet and donates 1% of this bread’s revenue to support environmental causes! My kids are very into protecting their planet, so they were thrilled that their lunch helps further that cause! I’d say we’re winning all around by adding Arnold organic bread to our shopping list. It tastes great AND it’s sustainably baked!
