A pumpkin smoothie is a great way to have a healthy take on the fall season’s most beloved flavor. Pumpkin!
We’re huge smoothie fans in our house, and Jake regularly starts his day with a green smoothie. But lately my little 4-year-old man has been getting a little stuck in his flavor rut. My Mom told me about this pumpkin smoothie and it sounded really easy and delicious. I thought we should give it a whirl and here we are, yum! This pumpkin smoothie was a great way for Jake to try something new and and still feel energized. Even Max seemed to be a huge fan!
Makes 2 smoothies
1/2 cup of pumpkin puree
1 frozen banana
1 cup almond milk (you can use any other type of milk if preferred)
1/4 tsp vanilla
Dash of cinnamon
Dash of nutmeg
Dash of pumpkin pie spice if you have it handy
About 3/4 cup of ice
Directions: Add all the ingredients to the blender. Blend to consistency desired. Sip away and enjoy!
Notes: I’m not a huge fan of exact measuring for smoothies. If you like things to be exact, just replace my dash with 1/4 tsp and you should be spot on! Also, I tend not to sweeten our smoothies since the kids seem fine with them as they are. If you like a sweeter taste feel free to add 2 tsp of honey, syrup or sweetener you prefer.
That’s all there is to this healthy pumpkin smoothie recipe. My mom was definitely right about this one. With all the other pumpkin breads, pies, lattes, cookies and other delicious pumpkin flavored goods out there, its nice to also have a lean healthy way to include the flavor.
If you needed to make this an extra special treat for someone with allergies or just for fun, why not add a dollop of whipped cream on top and sprinkle of cinnamon? It would be pretty and feel like a treat! There are so many ways to enjoy a pumpkin smoothie this season.
