Plaid Shirts for the Feminine Form

the dude plaid shirt

There is something about the holiday season that makes me want to seek out red plaid prints…and lots of them! I even recently subjected the dude to my red plaid obsession. You can find case in point above. Isn’t he stylin’ in his mam’s Target score?

The second I finish up the last of the Thanksgiving leftovers, I’m ready to dive head first into vats of Christmas colors and plaid is always a front runner in my holiday style. There is something so cozy and inviting about it if you ask me. Plus, it looks smashing with a Starbucks red cup…and we all know how much I love those! Side note…Have you seen the mugs that Starbucks is selling that look just like their paper cups? You can now get your red cup fix at home…and since I plan on using the heck outta the DeLonghi espresso machine that I scored on Black Friday, I think that little mug is gonna have to come home with me very soon!

What about y’all? Can you see past the Paul Bunyan like flannel shirts out there in the shoposphere and see the beauty in a fabulously feminine red plaid top? And you must check out my girl Josie…Doesn’t she look fabulous in her plaid shirt??

  1. Every time these come out, I buy one and then the trend passes and I get rid of it. Then it comes back and I am mad that I got rid of it. I need to hang on to my next one!

  2. The dude looks so cute in his plaid shirt! I didnโ€™t know Starbs had mugs that look like the red cupsโ€ฆI need to get one of those stat.

I really like the plaid shirt in the middle of the first row.

  3. The Dude is too cute in plaid. I adore plaid for the holiday season on big and little kids.:) I think I need that oen from AE.

  4. Okay, so first of all, the dude is absolutely precious! Could he BE any cuter?!
I’m all about plaid – I think the key to not looking like Old MacDonald is to pair a plaid shirt with a pair of jeggings or skinny jeans and some killer boots! Plus, it helps if the shirt is fitted (either bought that way or belted) so that it doesn’t look like I’m wearing a bag!
These are SO perfect – great picks, Kristin! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I’m right there with ya girlfriend. I think it’s the warmth of flannel and the Santa Claus factor that gets me every.time.

Just got the niece a red/black plaid bubble from J.Crew on that 25% off over the weekend…think she can rock it with footless black tights splayed with yellow polka dots across? Here’s hoping!!

    xo,
    Carrie

  6. The Dude is just about the cutest thing ever!!! I do have a red plaid shirt but I’m ashamed to say there’s nothing feminine about it. It’s a man’s red plaid FLANNEL but it’s soooo AWESOME!! Of course I don’t leave the house in it but it’s perfect for lounging around the house in the winter.

  7. Oh too cute! I have been thinking about plaid b/c my brother was wearing a really nice plaid shirt Sunday! I love the AE plaid shirt you featured…and great price!

  8. Funny that you posted this today… I’ve been on this shopping fast (as part of a 30 for 30 challenge) and today I had to go into WalMart (shudder) for a work errand. I found myself soooooooo shopping deprived that I was drooling over their flannel shirts. Thank you for posting some REALLy drool worthy flannels for me to oogle over.

    Leaving the House in THIS?!?!

  9. What a cutie! And I’ve been wanting to get another plaid shirt–I wear the one I have WAY too much! I love the ones you chose–especially the Anthro one!

  10. Firstly, the dude is ADORABLE. Give him a squeeze for me because he’s so gosh-darn huggable right there! Aww.

I have very limited plaid, but I do love a feminine twist on it. You’ve inspired me to look for a red shirt the next time I’m out shopping. I’ll tell you, though, those indie kids do love their plaid – I was in an independent bookstore this summer and it was like I’d interrupted a lumberjack convention!

P.S. thanks for the heads-up on the Starbucks red cup mugs. Had no idea!

  11. What perfect timing!
I just picked up a cute purple plaid top from Target tonight… only $15!!
Check the site… if you don’t see anything there check out the steals IN STORE!

    Great, great deals!

  12. Hey Kristin! Thank you SO much for your comment it makes my day whenever I see your name pop up!

I’m loving the plaid but I’d have to use a skinny belt to sinch it otherwise I’d be feeling too lumberjack-like.

  13. I love this plaid stuff. I totally never thought that I would, but the Anthropologie and top right Forever 21 shirt are pretty awesome. I think I might have to try it. Wonder if they’re work appropriate?

  14. I love the AE one! I was just looking at it the other day. I asked for a very expensive plum one from JCrew for Christmas but I think I should amend….

  15. Awww, the dude is too cute! Flannel is the best… I don’t care if people associate it with 90s grunge or lumberjacks. By the way, I’m a Starbucks red cup addict too – AND my hubby and I have started collecting the red cup mugs. Trust me, it’s the best investment ever ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. The first one is my favorite! I think the last time I wore a plaid shirt was in middle school when, for some reason, we thought they were cool. The only problem was that all of us girls borrowed them from our dads so they were huge and I’m sure very unflattering. Oh, well. We thought we looked hot!
