This post is about to get real mommy blogger. I mean real, real. But I thought some of you might be curious to see just how easy it is to make your own baby food. Just to be clear this is not me telling anyone that they should make baby food rather than buy it. I just really happen to like cooking. So, while I’m in the kitchen anyway why not whip up a little something for Jake? And without a doubt, I’m going to be that Mom that is so happy to feed her boy. I love watching his face as he tastes something I’ve made for him, even if it’s a little crinkled nose at his first taste of peas.
There are several great baby food “cook books” out there but I love this one my sister-in-law gave me. Even better is that she had no idea that the author, Chef Geoff, is a DC local and I’ve been to his restaurants countless times. I instantly loved that this was written by someone whose food I had tasted and trusted. Also, as I started reading I realizing just how easy it is to make your own baby food. Here is a simple process for fruit and, yes., sometimes a busy mom just buys the bag of frozen organic fruit because cutting it up takes too long. It still counts, ha!
1) Buy a bag of frozen organic fruit like the bag of mango below (yes, apparently Jake has exotic tastes). Another great thing about the bagged fruit is that when you see it on sale you can stock up since its lasts a long time.
2) Place 1lb bag of fruit into pot with 4 ounces of water. Cook covered on high for approximately 7 minutes, stirring once.
3) Pour it all into the blender and puree until smooth.
4) Pour into containers or ice cube trays and allow to cool. Then wrap and freeze. Defrost fully before serving.
Note: I use both ice cube trays and these Green Sprouts containers. Both are easy and ice cube trays work just fine, just makes sure to let them freeze then pop them into a freezer ziploc and remove as needed. Also, a typical ice cube is about 1oz making it very easy to count.

5) Enjoy mealtime!
