10 Ways You Know You’re a Grown Up
My thirties have been my very favorite decade so far. I became a mama for the first time shortly before I turned thirty. I became a two time mama in my early thirties and now that I’m in my mid thirties, living a full life with the love of my life and our precious cherubs, I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be…Thanks to Wendy’s®, I’ll be talking about life as a grown up today.
That being said, I do get nostalgic about my childhood from time to time and I’m often reminded of how magical those times were when I come across something I enjoyed as a kiddo. I’m also reminded of just how much of a grown-up I am when I I have the urge to put a grown-up spin on some of these childhood favorites!
So, here are 10 ways you know you’re a grown up:
1. Dark chocolate is your jam, while milk chocolate is just too sweet. (Have you ever made s’mores with dark chocolate?!?)
2. You find yourself trying to explain how amazing the Brat Pack was to a teenager who said…”What’s the Brat Pack?” (Not what honey…WHO!)
3. You’re playing an old favorite card game like Old Maid with your kids and find yourself saying, “Mommy used to play this when she was little.” (Wait, I’m a MOM? When did that happen?)
4. A DVR marathon sounds like a much better way to spend a Saturday night than going clubbing. (You can’t wear yoga pants to a club.)
5. A plain old chicken sandwich won’t do. You prefer a sophisticated take on the chicken sandwich like Wendy’s® Smoked Gouda Chicken on Brioche. Think rich Gouda cheese, sweet carmelized onions and a toasted Brioche bun. (Apple slices really bring out the Gouda’s delicious flavor!)
6. You love bubbles way more than you did as a kid because watching the way your own kids delight over them is so amazing! (Full disclosure, I do tap out at about thirty minutes of bubble play. My kids could blow them for HOURS. Mama needs a cocktail after that. Haha!)
7. You can’t get enough of your favorite coming of age movies and tv shows…And they instantly bring you back to a similar time in your life. (Hello St. Elmo’s Fire and Felicity. Why didn’t I appreciate how incredible college was when I was there?)
8. You eat raw fish. (Enough said.)
9. Your love for sparkly princess shoes have been replaced by red soled heels. (Ok, those are princess shoes too.)
10. You let your baby girl play with the doll you swore you would never let anyone touch. (I’m powerless against those big green eyes of hers! Just sayin’.)
So, what made you realize YOU are a grown up? Does anything on my list apply to you? Inquiring minds want to know! By the way…that Wendy’s® Smoked Gouda Chicken I was raving about is only available for a limited time.

i loooove me some netflix or dvr marathons! and that sandwich looks SO good! xo jillian – cornflake dreams
Dude, you have to try it. It’s delish!
DVR, Netflix or Law & Order marathons are definitley the best way to spend an afternoon! LOL.
For sure!
Oh, these are too funny. Yes, a DVD has been winning out over clubbing for a very long time now, but I’m not sure that I’ll ever get the hang of sushi. But then again, not a fan of cooked fish.
Dude…Jammies, my hubs, a glass of vino and DVR? No contest! 🙂
I think I was born an old person! I’ve long loved staying in to watch a movie instead of going out (this tendency did not make me the cool kid in college–oh well), and sushi has been a favorite food of mine for years. Love this post! 🙂
I don’t know what I would do without sushi now. Haha!
I definitely would rather stay in and watch TV then go out. I also cannot handle bubbles for more than about 5 minutes. lol
I realized I was a grownup when I referenced Pulp Fiction and the kid at the checkout didn’t know what I was talking about.
So true about being in your thirties … my favorite decade so far too! I am in my mid-thirties, and as soon as I turned thirty I felt kinda free … no so wrapped up in what other people thought. I guess I officially felt like a grown woman at that point.
I adore this post. It’s hilariously accurate!
2 more years and I will be in my 3-0s… but lately I feel like I’m too old. lol… Kids makes a lot of difference in your life. It’s worth it. Love that sandwich, looks good!
LOL #8 🙂
You had me at red-soled shoes and Brat Pack…also? I laughed because when you said ‘bubbles’…I was nodding because I thought BUBBLES – as in the champagne version – Ha! Clearly it is Friday. xoxo
Oh my gosh! This list is so true!! I love it! I need to try that sandwich – it looks amazing!!
OK, this post is awesome! I love it!!! I can see #10 happening 100%!
Dark chocolate smores! Why have I never thought of that??!!!
OH I can definitely relate to the Saturday nights! We are taking the kids to a movie tonight and honestly I’d much rather curl up with netflix at home in my pjs!
The accuracy in this post is startling!
Thought apparently I might not be all the way grown up because I still refuse to eat sushi! LOL!
What a cute post I used to be in denial about my age no longer. and I do love a good gouda sandwich too.
I’m a huge fan of the Brat Pack too! LOL….several things on your list resonate with me!
I need to try one of these ASAP! Love that you paired it with apples!
That sandwich looks so amazing! Looks savory and mouthwatering!
When I had got pregnant with my second child and wondered how in the heck did I become a mom lol
That burger looks amazing! I need to try one ASAP!
Mmmm… That smoked gouda chicken on brioche from Wendy’s look super tasty! I’m so going to order it next time we eat there!
Netflix. Cozy pants. Snacks. Call it a night 😉
If I get to eat a sandwich like that, then yep, I am definitely a grown up. Although, sometimes I do feel like refusing to grow up!
I still miss the Brat Pack gang, however when I see them all now I realize how old they are (and consequently me too), so maybe it’s best they’re hiding out. The sammy looks great!
That sandwich does look good and I agree when I was younger it was chicken and bread that’s it. maybe ketchup once in a while lol but now I’m all about the lettuce tomato cheeses etc. lol
I have got to try Wendy’s new Gouda burger – looks so good! I love the Wendy’s commercials!
So many truths. Love these and makes you smile.
Yummm on that dark chocolate. 🙂
You had me at #9. I’m all for those red soled shoes, even though their sizing are always a bit off.
Great list!!! I went through a total 1/4 life crisis in my early 20s when I started doing and saying things that my mom and other adults said. It still sometimes boggles my mind that I am a working professional. And it’s so true about the plain sandwiches not cutting it anymore. Give me something with flavor and stuffed with goodness! – Katy
That’s funny. And you know why, it is so true.
