Take it to the Maxi
So, I know you maxi naysayers are going to say…not another maxi dress post! I apologize. I can’t help myself. The prevalence of seventies style in the spring collections and my neverending love for the maxi requires me to continue to try to convince those of you that think you can’t wear them that you CAN! I know I’ve told you this before, but it bears repeating. I am by no means tall. However, by rockin’ heels or getting my frocks hemmed, I have no trouble steppin’ out in a slew of maxis. Try wearing maxis in one head to toe color or ones with vertical lines to make you appear taller if you’re height challenged like myself. Or go for broke and say to heck with the rules by trying out a vibrant print!
I know many of you are experiencing frigid temps right now. Never fear. By throwing a little cropped jacket on over your maxi, you can make the look season appropriate. You might want to throw a parka on over your jacket though. HAHA. This look from Adam’s Spring 2011 collection illustrates what I’m talking about to a tee…And make sure you check out the whole collection over at Style.com. Each piece is divinely flattering!
So, have I made a compelling argument lovelies? Are you willing to jump aboard the maxi train yet? In case you are…Here are few that I’m loving!

Oh man, I covet that DVF dress. Alas, $345 isn’t in my shopping budget!
But I do own something like 15 maxis, so I’m definitely in your camp =)
Love the DVF print! I have always loved the look of maxis but I’ve never felt that I’m tall enough for such a lengthy dress!
Wish I could wear these because they’re so pretty but I am far too short for them!
Okay, okay… I give in. I never thought a maxi dress would look good on my petite self, but I’ll give it a shot! 😛 That Diane von Furstenberg maxi is just too gorgeous!
I LOVE these dresses but I’m shivering as I look at them. The high today is like 36 degrees so a little cropped jacket wouldn’t cut it!! I’ll be glad when spring gets here.
Your choices are beautiful! I’m in full support of the maxi dress – I wish I could find more that were long enough for my tall self!!
oh i love the 2nd to last one
i know i am so obsessed with the maxi’s right now it isn’t even funny
Gorgeous dresses!
Oh I can never get tired of looking at Maxi dresses : ) Love the 3rd one, cute!
Said it before, say it again: I love the maxi. Keep it coming!
I fell in love with maxi’s last summer! I am only 5’1″ i just hem them or wear heals like you said and I always feel pretty and comfortable when I wear them! I want a solid black and some bold prints for this spring!
Love the teal striped! Hope you are having a great day honey!!!! Kori xoxo
Those are cute. I can only wear one in the house now. LOL or with some 20 inch high boots. We’re just getting over the blizzard here in Chicago. But the summer I’m going to be ready!
I haven’t adopted the maxi style yet… but who knows… that Alexander Wang Maxi Tank Dress worth it! gorgeous! xo
I have a maxi dress i bought in the sale for 8.00 (reduced fro 45!) ive had it for a few months but i’m waiting for some warmer weather, cant wait to wear it with a deni jacket!
Love the 2nd one down…actually bought one KIND of similar last year at the gap…for only like $20 🙂
I absolutely love this style of dress, because it’s something I feel like I can pull off. That is, of course, if it’s designed with short people in mind. Otherwise I end up tripping on them. 😉
I’m mid 30’s with hips, so i really like the first and last! So beautiful!
Love the first dress!

I have not tired of them yet 🙂 The first look is my favorite.
I love maxi dresses! Since I’m a shortie though, I just have to make sure I’m wearing wedges or espadrilles to give me some height! 😉
I am on the Maxi train girl!! I love me some long dresses…and I need to have the dress and jacket in the first pic. Fierce! xx
I have been all over this since a couple of summer’s ago when the maxi dress first cropped up again. I remember running to Target to get a brown jersey maxi dress, and now I am so glad that it is materializing again in the form of silk skirts and flowy dresses.
Well I am happy to say I am NOT a naysayer of maxi dresses 🙂 I actually really like them. They’re so comfortable and flowy and still chic. Maybe this is weird, but I feel out of place wearing them in New England, but when I’m in Florida or someplace tropical, it seems perfectly appropriate.
I really need to be brave and try a maxi, haha…maybe this weekend at the mall 🙂

It’s a great argument. And I still look at them and want to try. But I get so caught up with comparing myself to tall people and how awesome they look in a maxi…I will try harder not too 🙂
If the dress is the correct length, it will only elongate the body. Espesh if it’s a solid colored dress. I love the maxi!
I love Maxi dresses. There is a really great one at J.Crew right now that I am considering. xo
I love maxis and I’m just 5’4″….
That second one looks very comfy. I’ll be glad when it’s not so frigid and the dresses can come back out of hiding.
i love a maxi when traveling…my staple!
I still have yet to try out this trend! Haha, not anytime soon with the weather here!
My daughter and dil wear the maxi occasionally and they look darling! 🙂 Have a great day! xoxo
I love that DVF one! So cute — I soooo wish that I could pull off the maxidress!

LOVE the maxi dress esp that last one! And I am headed to Florida next week…might have to get one STAT
Adam’s Spring 2011 dress up top is gorgeous!! I wish I had another word to use, but it seriously is. Yowsa

I love maxi’s! They do look really cool with a cropped jacket on top. I love the DVF one. I need more maxis now!
I’m sure you won’t be catching too many maxi dresses in NYC this February! It’s freezing out here and it’s snowing on a weekly basis! However, I could see this being a nice transition for the warmer weather months 🙂
I’ve always like longer length skirts and dresses. They’re fun to wear and so much easier to get out of cars in. But I have an aunt in her 80s who once told me I looked like a bag lady in a long swirly skirt. Of course, I didn’t look like your models!
I love maxis, they are quite a staple in my wardrobe!
I absolutely LOVE the maxi dress… I find it so versatile and comfortable, and you can wear it so many different ways. I just got an adorable grey one at Forever21… just need the warmer weather 🙂

LOVE LOVE these Maxi’s….I’m so over these frigid temps. I’m ready to pull out my Maxis and my oversized shade 🙂
I do love their dresses I’m just too short to pull them off. But they are very pretty!!
Melanie’s Randomness
Love maxi dresses! I wish there were more available (in heavier material of course) to wear in the winter! ADAM is one of my favorite designers, and are always reinventing trends in the perfect way. Love it!
I guess I need to break down and buy one this spring!
I need a Maxi dress this spring. I’ve never had one because I thought I was too short.
I wore a maxi today. I’m glad they’re still around!
I have always wanted to wear a maxi dress. But I have always feared I’d look shorter than I already am! Lol But maybe I’ll take your advice and pick one out this spring/summer. 🙂
Keep the maxis coming, lady! You know I’m a fan. I rock them a little more each summer. The Nairobi Maxi dress is gorgeous.
Yes, they are nice little sharp shooters to have in one’s closet. I’m leaning towards one for this evening. Have a great day ~ xox Alexandra
Woohoo, I finally jumped on board and bought a maxi dress! I can’t wait to wear it after my 30 for 30.
I love Maxi dresses! I have one that I wear around the house to get things done just because it’s so comfy!
Maxi dress is so on my Spring “must get” list!!!
