A Smoky Eye Tutorial

Our makeup artist pal, Annelis, is back with another fabulous beauty post!

On May 21st, Tampa will be having one of its premiere fundraisers for the Tampa Museum of Art, which I am thrilled to be a part of the Host Committee this year. This will be the 6th year that the museum hosts this fabulous fundraiser. Tampa is fortunate to have works by the famous French artist, Edgar Degas. The museum is a gorgeous modern space, with floor to ceiling windows which provides a view of the stunning University of Tampa and the Hillsborough River. Kristin and I will be there in our glam cocktail attire paired with a sultry smoky eye makeup look. So many ladies are super intimidated by the elusive smoky eye. Remember, makeup is not permanent, so never be afraid to experiment.

Here’s how to create a quick and painless smoky eye:

Smoky eyes can be any shade you choose (grey, black, green, brown…) For this post I was inspired by summer to do a smoky eye in the green family.

1.    Apply neutral shadow (Bone Shadow) all over lid with an eye shadow brush.

2.    Apply a dark shadow (Ivy Shadow) on the lower lid.  The key is to blend with a brush (brushes with real hair vs. synthetic make a HUGE difference).

3.    Apply a lighter shimmer (Forest Metallic Eyeshadow) shadow in the crease of the eye in a windshield wiper motion holding the end of the brush in your hand.

4.    Take a lighter shade of shimmery shadow (Bonfire Shadow) with an eye smudge brush, and go over the eye lid area and the crease.

5.   Line your eyes (I love a kohl pencil because it smudges so easily). Stay closest to the lash line and line all the way across.  For extra drama, smudge it into the lower lash line all the way across.

6.    Rock out 2 coats of mascara.
