Spring 2011 Trend to Wear Now: The Maxi Dress
I’m sure I’m not the only one who dreams about glamming it up on New Year’s Eve. Even though the hubs and I are hosting an intimate party at home, that doesn’t mean I can’t be the picture of an oh so glamorous hostess! And that’s where one of my favorite spring 2011 trends comes into play. What is this trend you ask? Well, a BIG trend for this spring is the long hemline. Get ready for lots of seventies influences! You won’t see this girl complaining. I’ve made no secret of my never ending love for the maxi look, be it in dress or skirt form. For some, the thought of donning a floor length piee might be frightening, but if you’re willing to take a bit of a risk, the effect can be breathtaking. Just a reminder…I am by no means an amazon. My sister got all the height genes in my family. Yet, I’m still able to pull off a maxi dress! Well, I think I can anyway. HAHA!
As you’ve seen over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been mulling over my NYE ensemble. I’ve focused on shorter dresses, but perhaps I should consider going long for the occasion! I can so see myself swishing comfortably around the house in a maxi dress, bare feet and an armful of bangles. I never pass up a chance to insert a little boho vibe into my look. Here are a couple maxis I’m loving right now. What do you think lovelies? Should I go for a shorter or longer effect?

I am a huge maxi dress supporter. Go for it!
Thank goodness! i’m so glad these are still in style. my go to everyday dress. they are just so comfortable and transition perfectly from day to night.
Love them – the top one wins for me! I am sure you will look gorgeous whichever way you decide. I wish I could pull this look off here, but in NY in all this snow, it won’t work until warmer weather … sigh … I need some sand and flip flops please!
that first dress is sooooo pretty! i need it now or maybe later when my arms are nice and toned!
I love the options you picked out! I have 3 maxi dresses and love them all and the best part is how easy it is to style them and the length covers your feet so now shoes required 🙂
I really like them both, but the first one is my favorite. I love the idea of a maxi dress for NYE. They’re usually a foot too long for me, but I’ve always wanted one. Maybe I could hem it…
Ooh! I like! I wish I was that skinny tho… Does it come with the dress?
Kristen I for one love long dresses!! Wonderful!! Both are great!

i’m loving the first maxi dress a lot. i definitely will look for a dress like this to wear for the new year. it’s really a pretty dress!
love the black one…gorgeous!
I love them. I don’t where I’d wear one though.
The two-tone halter dress is just a dream, I love the color!
I love maxi dresses!
love the rachel pally number, it’s gorgeous!
my sister just brought me a pile of gold bangles from her trip to india – that are nearly identical to those, so you’ve inspired me! now i just need a fabulous maxi dress to wear with them (if it ever warms up in nyc!)

Yeah for the maxi dress – this means I should get some more wear out of my long black number I invested in last year! I really do rely on you girls to tell me what I can get away with wearing!!
I am sure whatever you choose for New Years Eve you will look stunning.
xx
Ugh! I missed so much while I was on vacation! I’m trying to catch up! Love the black dress! So elegant.
Love the maxi dress and I agree-great for now and definitely for the spring/summer. Longer hemlines will be a nice change.
i was hesitant to try maxi dresses, but once i did, i fell in love. they are very comfortable and flattering for all body types. i’m excited they are going to still be in style this spring!
The models look great! I wish I looked as good in a maxi dress!
I love the maxi style, despite my shortness:( They are always so comfy, too!
I am a total shrimpo, so maxi-length seems impossible to me! But, I have definitely been “evolving” my style and experimenting over the nxt year, so I guess I really can’t write anything off. 😛
Love the first dress.
I am soooo in love with Maxi Dresses they hid my imperfections and so sexy! xoxo
That one-shoulder black gown is so glamorous – I love love love it!

I’m in love with that first dress! It’s the perfect color and cut! Hope you have an amazing New Year dearest! xo -Taj @ gorgeous glam
woo hoo!! Thank you 🙂
I actually think a maxi dress would be great for New Year’s Eve, and when you’ve worn them previously they looked amazing! I say you should go for the Rachel Pally. 😀
Love the idea of a maxi dress with bangles–I think my preference is the black. I’m going to a toga party for New Year’s Eve, so I think I’ll be wearing a maxi dress by default:)
fabulous!!!
Ooooh the 2nd black dress is so luscious – love this option on you!!
Love me a good maxi dress. I especially love the single sleeve look. So classy. My boyfriend, however, tells me that I look like a monk when I wear my maxi dress. Arrghh…what does he know??
Oh that black Riller & Fount dress is too cute!
ohh i LOVE maxi dresses!! i totally need some more!!!!!
adoring that rachel pally!
Gorgeous! I have always thought that maxi dresses were quite glam.

Love the maxi dress looks!! So glamorous!!!
oh goodness! who isnt in love with that off the shoulder
gown?!!! love it!!!
I love the idea first of all. Both dresses are nice but the
off the shoulder one is breathtaking. We also are hosting an
intimate party of other friends with young kids like us. But I too
plan to dress up. Actually dressing up at home is my fave cause you
can wear the super high heels and when you are tired just take them
off and slip into cozy slippers. A bit harder to do in someone
else’s house. 🙂
I adore maxis!! Honestly, great way to go if you’re going
to be at home and barefoot, why not! I like the second one a lot, a
lot -very kardashian! ps thanks for the compliment on my new blog
header, I was really excited when I did it 🙂
the maxi dress is so chic.
That black dress is gorgeous, and topped with those bangles it would look great! You can definitely pull it off, which I envy.
Ahhh yeah!!! You bring me good news – I have two maxi dresses I purchased in the fall but have yet to wear, so I’m glad they’re still trendy and in style for 2011. I think you’ll look gorgeous in one, hope your New Year’s Eve is amazing!
I’ve always felt I couldn’t pull off the maxi dresses since I’m so short! But I have to admit, I’m in love with that Rachel Pally one. So gorgeous!
I really like this look and can’t believe the 70’s are coming back
Those bracelets are to die for!
Great dresses! The black one is stunning!
I bought one a few seasons ago from Kohl’s which has just about been worn out… can’t wait to replace it 🙂
Bisous,

i love the charolette vintage necklace!!!!
I’m a huge fan of the maxi dress and rocked it on the regular over the summer. I think the Riller & Fount dress is absolutely gorgeous. The bangles would be fabulous with it.
I hope you have a fantastic NYE!
I love wearning maxi dresses, and I’m 5’2″. Of course, I have to try it on in the store ( no online buying) to make sure I can pull off the length because some are made way too long for me. I cold totally see you wearing that black one. Men LOVE long maxi dresses–so elegant and sophisticated. My man always gave many extra compliments when I pulled out the long dress.
Can you believe I still don’t have a maxi dress! I almost bought one today at F21, but it wouldn’t have worked for cold temps. I need to find one though!!
A maxi dress is on my “to purchase” list this year for
sure!
That first dress is KILLER — love it!
