Getting Creative with the Creative Station

I’m pumped to share my experience with the Xyron Creative Station today! The Creative Station is a small machine that laminates, creates adhesive backing and magnetic backing. Recently, I tried it out and within just a few days it became a household staple. It’s truly the perfect item for all parents, teachers, scrapbookers, and crafters in general. There are SO MANY things you can do with it, and the best part is that it’s compact and easy to use. No plugs, heat or fuss.

To put the Creative Station to the test I decided to try the three small projects below. A “Days of the Week” chart for Jake, laminated luggage tags for the family, and magnetic photos. And that was just to get me started. There is still so much I can’t wait to do with it!

Days of the Week Chart
Jake, my 3 1/2 year old, loves charts. We use one in his room that outlines the bedtime routine and it really helps reduce the fussiness. When all else fails, at bedtime we go to the chart and check off pajamas, teeth brushing, nighttime stories, etc. So, now that we are starting to have more activities and he is understanding the concept of the week vs. the weekend, I thought it would be good to have a chart where he can mark the day of the week, and that day’s activities each morning.

To start, I downloaded a free template, as well as a few free clip art images for activities, and printed them out on my color printer. Knowing that the kitchen is a spot that we are in every morning, I thought the magnetic backing would be perfect for the fridge. I was right…Just a few turns of the handle and I had a great magnetic chart and accompanying magnets ready to go. Two weeks later he is checking off swim lessons and play days like a champ.

Luggage Tags
Wanting to now test the Creative Station’s lamination, I tackled making custom luggage tags for the family. I simply cut a rectangle from craft paper, put our address on the back and one of their name tags on the front. I then used the Creative Station lamination cartridge and a few handle turns and a hole punch later, I had cute luggage tags ready to go!

Photo Magnets
A few days later I was sorting through some photos. I love displaying them around the house, but you just can’t frame everything! I had a few that I loved like Jake’s school photo and one of Max and I when he was a newborn. I decided to quickly send them through the Creative Station using the magnet cartridge and mere seconds later I had cute photos on the fridge. Doing a set of these would be such a great Christmas gift for the grandparents. I can’t wait!

Now that I have the Creative Station I can’t imagine living without it. What a fun way to preserve your children’s artwork, create amazing scrapbook pages, and get inspired for custom gift giving! It’s so compact and cord free that I think every school/preschool needs to have one for teachers. Oh, and the new design call for both 9 and 5 inch cartridges, but the fine folks who designed it made sure the old cartridges still work, just in case any of you already have one!
