As you can probably guess, I’m a total girly girl. And I love all things wedding! So, when I had the chance to help create wedding shower favors and pick a cake for my friend Kate’s shower I decided to really have fun with it. Her wedding is going to be a seaside affair, so I figured a beachy theme would work. Also, knowing my limitations as a crazy working mama I decided to order the cake so I could focus on the favors. I ordered a pretty and delicious cake from Annapolis local favorite, The Main Ingredient. Next up, I decided on homemade chocolate seashells nestled in a beach pail for the favors. I recruited two of my girls to help with the process, Cait and Kitty pictured below, and then ordered plastic molds and pails off of Amazon.
After purchasing chocolate melts from Michael’s, we literally just melted them over a double broiler to get the chocolate. After several failed attempts we decided that using the baby soon to spoon the melted chocolate into the mold worked best. It didn’t overflow the mold and gave us more control.
After letting the chocolate rest for about 20 minutes, our assembly line included Cait tapping the little shells out of their molds.
And yes sorry folks, I realize that my white balance is off. The yellow lights of my kitchen coupled with a bright summer day makes it hard on the ol’ eyes. However, not to be outdone by my mess of a kitchen. Normally for shoots I clear everything off but things have just been so busy lately. So, here’s a sneak peek of what my kitchen looks like when life gets outta control. Hopefully most of you are nodding your heads in understanding and not in disgust!
Once we had all the chocolates tapped out, Kitty was our sorter. She diligently went through and placed the best ones in the tiny pails.
We also used “Thank You” stickers on the pails that I picked up from Paper Source, along with the polka dot bags and ribbon from Sur La Table to keep them fresh.
The final result!
At the shower, we placed them around the cake and they truly looked adorable. All of that hard work and fun (I love getting my girls together for a project!) was well worth it and Kate had a wonderful day!
Here I am with the bride to be celebrating!
I love going all out for a special touch at a party. Any other ideas for some great wedding shower favors? I have a few more coming in my near future!
