How to Make Spring Cleaning Fun for Your Kids

We’re lucky enough to have a lovely cleaning women that helps us out around the house. My husband and I both work a ton of hours, so having her come in and do the heavy lifting, cleaning wise, is a life saver. That being said, it’s not like she’s there every day. We have to do plenty of maintenance in between her visits. And, frankly, I don’t want my children growing up thinking there is always going to be someone there to clean up their messes. Picking up after themselves is an important part of teaching them a sense of responsibility in my book…but that’s easier said than done. Haha!

My kiddos are still small and convincing them that cleaning is a good idea is not exactly a walk in the park. What I have found that works best is making a game out of it. And being that it’s spring, the perfect time to give your home a nice refresh, I’m pulling all my tricks out. Whether that means racing each other to see who can pick up the most toys or collecting toilet paper rolls for crafting, but first replacing them with new Cottonelle® Toilet Paper Double Rolls (you gotta love the double action) or Scott® 1000 Bathroom Tissue (which lasts a looooong time), I’m doing whatever I can to get my kids in on the cleaning fun.

Another cleaning trick that always seems to work is gathering everyone together to wash the car. Along with getting our house in order, we like to take a beat during spring cleaning season to clean out and detail our cars. Luckily, there is no convincing needed when it comes to playing with water. To be fair, mommy and daddy think it’s pretty good time too. Washing the car always makes for a fun family experience. Any time we can make a memory with our kids, I’m a happy girl!

I’ve also found that my little lady bean loves to pretend that she’s a “big girl” just like mommy, so when I put together a little cleaning kit that she could carry carry around to “help” me, it was a big hit. I stocked it with things like Viva® Towels, which are perfect for my baby girl to “clean” with thanks to the super soft texture, cleaning gloves, sponges and an apron. I have an apron collection that I inherited from my great grandmother and though I may not be a total domestic diva, I always feel like she’s with me when I’m wearing her aprons…And it makes me so happy to see my daughter wearing them too. Don’t you love it when things come full circle?
