Valentine’s Day Chocolate Chip Cookies
Who doesn’t love a good chocolate chip cookie? I mean really, I don’t think there is a person on this planet who can resist them. I’ve been making them from scratch since I was a little girl and even have the recipe on the back of the chocolate chip bag memorized. I remember one night several years ago when Floyd and I were still dating and we decided to have a low key night in. I asked if he wanted cookies, he of course said yes, and I started taking out the ingredients from my cupboards. I mean, I can whip up a batch in no time flat so to me it just made sense. I remember looking over and seeing him stare at me in amazement, mouth gaping open. Apparently he had never seen anyone make chocolate chip cookies. He was a store bought kid. It seems absurd to me since they are pretty simple, but hey, maybe that’s what got him down on bended knee, hee hee.
Anyway, I decided it was time to amp up my old standby recipe. So, when I stumbled upon this recipe for “The Best Chocolate Chip Cookie” on AllRecipes.com I decided to give it a whirl. It’s pretty standard with a few small tweaks including directions to dissolve the baking soda in hot water and use more flour than what is typical, but it worked. The results were oh-so-divine! This will definitely replace the back of the bag instructions. I also substituted the walnuts for Valentine’s Day M&Ms. I just love the extra chocolate and seeing the pink and red colors peek through makes for a fun Valentine’s Day treat!
