What to Wear to Thanksgiving

Wether you’re hosting or going to a Thanksgiving dinner, knowing what to wear can be confusing. It used to be that everyone would really dress-up for the holiday. But now most people tend to be pretty casual and comfortable. Gotta leave ample room for that turkey and pumpkin pie!

But feeling cozy and comfortable at Thanksgiving doesn’t have to look sloppy. Here’s my take on what to wear to Thanksgiving that will keep you sitting pretty all day long. No jeans unbuttoning necessary.

In general, leggings are a great outfit base for a holiday that will involve a lot of helping in the kitchen, playing games with family or getting outside for a nice fall walk. They are even good for getting cozy on the couch to watch some football! These Anthropologie leggings are my newest obsession. I love the brown plaid and they can really be dressed up or worn more casually. Also, is it just me or do they have a hint of 70’s vibe to them?

I decided that there was no better pairing to these leggings than a black sweater blouse. If we’re talking what to wear to Thanksgiving than I think a pretty black sweater simply works wonders. For starters it will hopefully hide any food that my kids smear onto me. Reality, the kids table isn’t mess free even in the slightest. Grey or cream would also work with these leggings but again, the kid factor has me leaning towards black.

Now let’s talk fabulous footwear. Depending on your day, this could go so many ways. Is the house shoe-free? If so, you may want to wear cute socks or just slip on ballet flats. Is it a dinner party that is more formal with few or zero kids? Why not pretty black heels? In my first look I am wearing a pair of suede Jessica Simpson heels I bought a few years ago. Like all great black heels, they still work!

For my family affair I think my J. Jill over-the-knee riding boots are perfect. They are so comfortable and great for walking the kiddos to the park while still looking chic. They also slip off easily for a mad game of Twister. That happens.

Add some statement jewelry and you have a great formula for what to wear to Thanksgiving. Cheers dears!
