Versailles Inspired Look
Both Kristin and I love a good juicy show. We typically have one that we’re both watching at the same time and can text back and forth with our love and outrage of the characters and fashion. Several of our favorites have recently ended, including our beloved Downton. Luckily we have found a new replacement that is sure to get us excited and inspired all over again. Say hello to Versailles on Ovation. Even better it takes place in France, a place we have both visited and continue to obsess over.
In the new TV series Versailles, the history and life of King Louis XIV of France has been vibrantly brought to life. Versailles features the romance, drama, and betrayal surrounding the Sun King and features the beauty and opulence of France’s 17th century high society.
No surprise that one of my favorite aspects of the show is the fashion. It is beyond gorgeous!
It has been so much fun for me to take inspiration away from these looks. A few themes really come through including rich color and fabrics, lots of jewelry, large sleeves and of course those curls and ornate hair styles. Overall the look is feminine and luxurious.
So, while I may not be able to get my pin straight hair in those gorgeous curls without the help of a stylist, I was able to take a few ideas away for a modern take on the Versailles “look.”
First I went with this dress in a deep cobalt blue. It is definitely a color that feels bold and will get you noticed. The sleeves have a bell shape that is reiterated in the hemline that gives the look some volume. I love the feeling of this shape lined up against the modern silhouette.
Of course, nothing says 17th century opulence like big jewels. This Kendra Scott double ring definitely has a similar over the top feel, and a large and in charge Stella and Dot statement necklace brings it all together.
While I may not have manicured gardens to stroll through, a large lawn in the afternoon sunlight to relax in and enjoy works for today’s day and age.
What do you think of this Versailles inspired look? What would you do to capture 17th century style in today’s world?
Versailles just recently premiered so start watching now for all the gorgeous scenery and juicy storylines. Find out what your Ovation channel and availability is to make sure you don’t miss a beat. With a core focus on the arts, it’s one of my favorite channels!
