Look Good Feel Better

My beloved Auntie, and godmother, passed away, at far too young an age, from breast cancer several years ago. My mom always said that I was more like her than my own mom. Fashion was our shared passion and I always had so much fun when she came to visit us because we would go shopping, pour over her glamorous makeup and just laugh for hours. We had the same sick sense of humor. Haha! I will forever miss her, but I’m so grateful for the time we spent together. She had a hand in helping me become the woman I am today.

My Auntie was a very beautiful woman and remained so even after she lost her hair, but I’m sure losing one’s hair is a tough pill to swallow for any woman. That’s why I think it’s so wonderful that programs like Look Good Feel Better, which is in its 25th year, exist.

Feeling good about the way you look can have such a positive affect on your outlook. The physical changes a woman may go through when faced with cancer can not affect not only her appearance, but her will to fight. It’s Look Good Feel Better’s mission to give the power over their looks back to women who are battling this disease.

On their website you can find a virtual makeover tool that allows you take your clean slate face and add makeup and a fun hairstyle to it. I tested it out myself and had a blast trying on some of my favorite celebrity hairstyles. I ended up going with the Mrs. Timberlake…or Jessica Biel as you may know her. Please forgive the half smile. I haven’t quite mastered the selfie yet. Le sigh. I went mostly makeup free today to show you a proper before and after example. I wiped my makeup off and probably have a smidge left behind, but you get the picture. Normally, I probably wouldn’t post a makeup free shot on my site, but it seems pretty silly to be vain about something like that when there are brave women everywhere fighting for their lives!

By simply uploading their photo, cancer patients can see how feeling better about their appearance just might give them the extra bit of courage they need. So, if you know someone who is fighting cancer right now and could use a pick me up, consider referring them to the Look Good Feel Better…You could even try the tool out for yourself, so you can get a sense of how beneficial it could be.

Everyone who shares their “after” image on Twitter or Facebook, using the hashtag #ReimagineBeauty, will be entered to win a trip to the National Women’s Survivor Convention in Nashville, TN, from Look Good Feel Better, where they will have the opportunity to connect with other women who have survived cancer!

Disclosure: I participated in this program on behalf of Look Good Feel Better and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own.

I completely understand. I lost my aunt that I was very close too when I was 22 to breast cancer. At the time she was getting treatment I was having a lump removed & was scared to death. Thankfully, all was ok but every 6 months I have follow ups because of issues. PLEASE make sure to get your mammogram!!

This is such a wonderful campaign and tool for those struggling with any kind of cancer. I, too, lost my godmother and aunt to cancer too early. Makes me sad almost daily that she isn’t here to be with my kids. This is really great. Thank you for sharing with all of us!
