Thank you Essilor Vision Foundation for sponsoring this post. EVF provides over 500,000 pairs of glasses per year to people in need and works with schools, eye doctors, charities, and corporations to help build vision ambassadors focused on serving their community.
Essilor Vision Foundation is a cause close to my heart…read on to see why!
Once upon a time, a little girl tentatively tried on her first pair of glasses. That little girl was me. I remember being so scared about how those glasses would be received at school. To know that I had to wear them from that moment on felt like a life sentence. If only I could go back and tell that scared little girl it would all turn out ok. But when you’re a child, it’s hard to imagine that glasses could ever feel like a part of your identity and not just a flaw. But here I am, fully grown, and loving my specs! I even wear them more than I do my contacts now!
Thankfully, the stigma that seemed to stick to kids who wore glasses back when I was young seems to have diminished these days. In fact, my daughter’s best friend wears the cutest little glasses and my baby girl came home recently trying to convince me that she needed them as well. It turns out she just wanted to look as cool as her bestie. Haha! She doesn’t currently need glasses, but I know if she does in the future, she will rock them with confidence!
I’m also grateful that the ability to provide my kids with corrective eyewear won’t be an issue for my family. That hasn’t always been the case. I was raised by a single mom and I know that having two kids in glasses wasn’t always easy on the budget. And today, nearly a fourth of all parents can’t afford a full vision exam for their children. I am simply not ok with that statistic, are you?
Well, there is something we can all do about it! By donating to Essilor Vision Foundation, you can help provide a vision exam and glasses to a child in need! And that is one of the most important gifts you will ever give my friends! Did you know 1 in 4 children in the U.S. has a vision problem that affects their ability to learn? Before I got my glasses, I fully struggled to read the board at school. And even though I worried about what I would look like in those new glasses, finally seeing clearly was, in a word, incredible! Imagine being able to give that experience to a child in your community…
Struggles with vision impact every aspect of a child’s life. If they can’t see properly everything from learning, to after school activities, like sports, art, or music, and even social interactions are all the more difficult. Childhood has enough struggles; vision shouldn’t be one of them. By donating today, you can be these kids’ advocate! Thanks to people like you who are willing to give, no child or their family ever receives a bill for vision exams or glasses from EVF.
So, won’t you join me in donating to Essilor Vision Foundation? There are children ready and waiting for that life changing exam! Just think about all they will achieve when they can see properly!
