Girls Night In Ready Mai Tai Recipe

sushi on white platter served on marble counter

I love spending quality time with my girls. For as long as I can remember, Sunday night has been a great night to make dinner, swap stories and watch TV together. Before kids came along, we would get together to chat about the latest drama and what had happened over the weekend all the time!

It was always such a great way to end to the weekend. Now that kids and family life are in the picture, it happens, just not as frequently. You fellow mamas get it. Sunday night get togethers still make for great time to hang out and relax IF we can make it happen. Bwah! But now it’s less about the drama of going out and more about the drama of pre-school. Haha!

California Themed Dinner

Girls Night In Idea

I always think it’s fun to play around with themes when planning get togethers. And Sunday night reality shows that I like to binge, like the California girls from Vanderpump Rules, serve up some solid girls night in inspiration! Hence, the California themed girls night in ideas I’m sharing today! I simply love California cuisine, don’t you? I’m talking fish tacos to avocado on literally everything!

And one of my California favorites is sushi of course. Now I know that sushi is not from California, but did you know that legend has it that it was a group of traveling Californians who put the rice on the outside of the roll for taste and texture? Also, the California roll originated in SoCal and the state loved sushi so much it helped spread the love across the U.S. I may be an East Coast girl at heart, but that is something I can totally get behind!

Girls Dinner In

And what better way to soak up the sunny personalities of quirky California ladies than pairing our sushi with Mai Tais? Yum! The fruity cocktail is claimed to be invented in the 90s in Oakland, California. There are several delicious variations and I included an easy Mai Tai recipe below.

So, how about you? Do you get together with your girls for a Sunday night of TV fun or do you watch and chat back and forth while on the phone? I’ve done that with my bestie too. There’s no reason you have to be in the same room to have some girls night in fun…just sayin’!
