How to have a Safe Summer

shriners

We all love the opportunities for fun that summer has to offer right? From racing around the yard to splashing in the pool, our kiddos spend a good majority of the season outside. And while it’s wonderful that they’re so active and enjoying the great outdoors, summer can also lead to avoidable injuries…That’s just what Shriners Hospitals for Children® wants to help prevent.  I am thrilled to be partnering with them to spread safety awareness. They want our kids to experience a safe, injury-free summer, as do we as parents! Fortunately, there are some easy safety rules that we can share with our kids that can help prevent summer injuries! And they come courtesy of the Shriners Hospitals for Children® On Track for a Safe Summer campaign.

I had the opportunity to host an event at the Shriners Hospitals for Children® in Tampa and had a wonderful time talking about these safety reminders with the influencers and their kiddos who attended. The kids had the opportunities to earn superhero badges by completely activities focused on safety and boy did they have fun. Did I  mention the Dude and Lil’ Lady Bean were there too? I want my wee ones to know all about safety too! Plus, they’re both superhero fanatics…I mean who can resist rockin’ a cape? But I digress…Let’s get to those rules and tips…It’s a perfect time to share them as June is National Safety Month.

Shriners Hospitals for Children® is focusing on some key areas for their On Track for a Safe Summer campaign…Water safety, safety around mowers, playground safety and fire fafety in relation to camping and grills. You can see them all for yourself here. One of my favorite takeaways from their lawn mower safety tips was to have small children stay in the house when a lawn mower is in use. Those little ones can sneak up on you and before you know it, something tragic has happened. Of course you want to remind your children to never play on or around lawn mowers, but keeping them safe inside and away from the mower is even better. There was a little girl in my home town who both lost her feet in a lawn mower accident a few years ago. She is actually a Shriners Hospitals for Children® patient to this day. A little extra diligence when lawn work is being done could prevent a life changing injury.

I also loved their playground rule to go down the slide feet first, one child at a time. I’m sure my kiddos aren’t the only ones who are constantly in a hurry to throw themselves down the slide, so this was a good reminder to make sure they slow down and use their favorite piece of playground equipment the safe way. I don’t know about you, but I certainly don’t want any broken limbs putting a damper on our summer! And on that note, I plan to make sure that my babies thoroughly understand each and every safety rule!

I can’t say enough about how impressed I was with their facility. I had the opportunity to tour the hospital after our event was over and to see the time, dedication and resources that have gone into caring for children, right darn to cheerful kid-friendly murals, was heartwarming to say the least!

So, how do you plan on having a safe summer lovelies?
